The Baix Empordà Men's Service, a pioneering public initiative in the Baix Empordà region of Girona province, is seeing a growing number of young users. This service focuses on addressing male chauvinist behaviours and violence through the lens of equality.

Despite the rise in younger individuals, the majority of users remain men aged between 36 and 50. These men often seek help during significant life changes, such as raising children, experiencing separations, or needing to re-evaluate their relationships, according to officials.

Addressing Harmful Behaviours

Ivan Garcia, a social educator with the service, explained that many users express a desire for change. "These are men who say 'I cannot continue living like this' and decide to open up and work on it," Garcia told reporters. The service provides a space for men to confront and modify behaviours linked to male chauvinism.

One user, identified as Albert, sought assistance after a criminal legal process. He described the service as crucial for personal growth. "They help you unblock things that you would never understand on your own," Albert stated, highlighting the support received.

Future Focus on Prevention

The Baix Empordà Men's Service continues to work towards preventing violence by promoting equality among men. Its increasing reach, particularly among younger demographics, suggests a growing awareness and willingness to engage with these issues. The service aims to expand its preventative programmes and continue supporting men in fostering healthier relationships and behaviours.
