Police in Badalona believe a shooting that injured a child is most likely linked to drug trafficking, according to the head of the Mossos d'Esquadra's Northern Metropolitan Region, Antoni Sànchez.
Speaking to Catalunya Ràdio, Sànchez said the investigation was moving in the right direction and that the facts should be clarified soon. He also confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.
Sànchez said the injured child is out of danger. Police have not yet confirmed whether the child was part of one of the families involved in the shooting, but they believe the conflict was between specific groups rather than an attack on the public at random.
The incident took place in Badalona's Sant Roc neighbourhood, an area that the Mossos chief said has been an operational priority for some time. He described Sunday's events as serious and exceptional, and said any use of a firearm in a public place is intolerable.
Investigators are continuing to work to identify those responsible and to understand the dispute behind the shooting. For more local coverage, see our news page.
