In Barcelona, work is under way on the Assumption Chapel at the Sagrada Família, on the basilica’s northern façade along Provença Street. According to officials, the chapel is being built behind the apse and will form part of the perimeter cloister.
The cloister is planned to encircle the entire temple, with the chapel set in the middle of its northern section. The structure will have a square base measuring 10 metres by 10 metres and will rise to 30 metres.
That height is roughly the same as a ten-storey building, but it will still be far below the 172.5-metre Jesus Tower. The chapel is one more step in the long-running construction of Antoni Gaudí’s unfinished basilica.
Its placement is part of the wider architectural plan for the site, adding a new element to one of Barcelona’s best-known landmarks. For readers following local coverage, see our news page.
