Drivers across Catalonia faced long queues on the AP-7 motorway over the Second Easter long weekend, according to Diari Catalunya. The pre-summer getaway, known as the “operació sortida”, put the road’s capacity under pressure and led to kilometres of traffic jams on major routes.

The delays affected many people leaving urban centres for holiday destinations. Long weekends often bring heavier traffic as residents use public holidays for short breaks.

The AP-7 is one of Catalonia’s key transport corridors, linking parts of the region with the rest of Spain and France. Congestion on the motorway during peak travel periods remains a recurring issue for road management across Catalonia.

Officials regularly monitor traffic flow and introduce measures to ease bottlenecks, but high vehicle volumes can still cause major delays. The traffic seen during this pre-summer period is likely to inform planning for the busier summer holiday season.
