More than 1,400 fines were issued to vehicles on the AP-7 motorway in Tarragona during the first three months of 2026, according to figures from the Mossos d'Esquadra. Police carried out 515 controls on the road, particularly on the 44-kilometre stretch between Calafat (L'Ametlla de Mar) and Amposta, which is known as one of Catalonia's most problematic sections.

While the AP-7 in Tarragona has seen a significant reduction in accidents at the start of 2026, the number of traffic infractions remains high. The 1,435 fines were issued to various vehicles, including lorries, during the police operations.

Police Focus on High-Risk Stretch

The Mossos d'Esquadra concentrated their efforts on the southbound lanes of the AP-7 between Calafat and Amposta. This specific section has historically presented challenges regarding road safety and compliance with traffic regulations. The high number of controls and subsequent fines show a continued focus on improving driver behaviour in the area.

Authorities are expected to maintain a strong police presence on this part of the AP-7. The ongoing enforcement efforts aim to further reduce both accidents and infractions, ensuring safer travel for all road users in the region.
