€62.7 Million for Reus Airport Upgrades

Aena will invest €62.7 million at Reus Airport between 2027 and 2031, as confirmed by the Spanish government's approval of the Airport Regulation Document (DORA III) on Tuesday 15 September 2026. The investment forms part of a wider €13 billion national plan for Spain's airport network, with Catalan airports collectively receiving around 23% of the total, approximately €3 billion. The upgrades at Reus are aimed at improving terminal services, security, and operational efficiency. Key projects include a new passport control area for arrivals, a full renovation of access roads, improvements to the boarding zone for passenger comfort, and upgrades to parking facilities.

Runway and Drainage Improvements

A portion of the funding will go toward strengthening operational safety at the airport. This includes resurfacing the runway and upgrading the drainage system to meet current safety standards. These works are intended to ensure the airfield remains reliable and resilient under all weather conditions.

Part of Broader Catalan Airport Investment

Reus Airport’s share is part of a larger allocation for Catalonia: Barcelona-El Prat will receive €1.765 billion, Girona-Costa Brava €112.4 million, and Sabadell €22.3 million. While El Prat will see preparatory work for future expansion, including environmental compensation measures and project design, the minister of transport, Óscar Puente, stressed that DORA III does not fund capacity increases or new runways at any airport.

The focus is on improving service, safety, and sustainability, not expanding flight capacity.

Puente confirmed that airport charges will rise by an average of 0.33% annually over the next five years, significantly lower than Aena’s initial proposal of 3.8%. The regulated investment of €9.991 billion will be funded through airport fees, with the remaining €3 billion coming from commercial revenues. Spain’s airport network currently accounts for nearly 6% of national GDP and supports around 600,000 jobs. Air traffic has grown by 20% compared to pre-pandemic levels, with recent months setting new passenger records.
