Adif AV has tendered a contract worth €7.1 million for the supply and installation of baseplates for sleepers on high-speed rail sections in Catalonia. The work will focus on lines managed by the maintenance bases in Montagut, Lleida, and Vilafranca del Penedès, Barcelona, according to a statement released on Friday.
The contract specifies the provision and fitting of baseplates on sleepers where needed. This is to ensure the reliability of the railway infrastructure and improve passenger comfort, officials said.
Night Work to Avoid Disruption
Work is scheduled to take place during night-time maintenance windows. This approach means the railway service will not be affected, ensuring continuity for travellers.
Baseplates are critical components placed between the rail and the concrete sleeper. They secure the rail, increase its support surface, and stop it from moving. Adif explained that the condition of these plates "must be optimal to guarantee passenger comfort and the durability of track materials."
This investment aims to maintain the high standards of Catalonia's high-speed network. The tender process will determine the contractor responsible for these essential upgrades.
