An educational initiative at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Manresa has been operating for over 70 years, making it Catalonia's oldest hospital classroom. This facility also ranks among the most long-standing in Spain, according to local reports.

Each year, more than 400 students from infant, primary, and secondary levels attend the classroom. These include children and young people admitted for short stays, as well as those who visit the day hospital regularly for allergy tests or chronic conditions.

For many of these students, attending the classroom offers a valuable opportunity to disconnect from the hospital environment. It provides a sense of normalcy and continuity in their education while undergoing medical treatment.

Decades of Educational Support

The classroom's long history highlights a sustained commitment to supporting the educational needs of hospitalised children in Manresa. Its establishment over seven decades ago predates many similar initiatives across the region and the country.

Officials have recognised the classroom's role in helping young patients maintain their studies and mental well-being during challenging times. The programme aims to minimise disruption to their learning journey, regardless of their health circumstances.
