AC projected as leading force in two provinces

Aliança Catalana (AC) is now the leading political party in the provinces of Lleida and Girona according to a Sigma Dos poll published on 11 September 2026 by El Mundo. The survey indicates a dramatic shift in Catalonia’s political landscape, with AC rising from just two seats in the 2024 regional elections to a projected 25–28 deputies if elections were held today. In Lleida, AC would win five seats, a gain of four since 2024, overtaking Junts, ERC, and the PSC. In Girona, AC is projected to take seven seats, up six from the last election, making it the largest party in the province. Together with Vox’s one seat, this gives the right-wing bloc eight deputies in Girona, described in the report as the most right-leaning province in Spain.

PSC remains largest in Catalonia but loses ground

The Socialists’ Party of Catalonia (PSC), led by President Salvador Illa, would still win the most seats across Catalonia with 31–33 deputies, down from 42 in 2024. Despite remaining first, its weakened position means it could no longer form a governing coalition with ERC and Comuns, whose combined total would fall short of the 68-seat majority needed. ERC is projected to hold steady at 19–21 seats, while Junts would suffer heavy losses, dropping from 35 to between 19 and 22. The far-right AC would surpass both to become the second-largest force in the Catalan Parliament.

Sharp rise for AC reshapes political dynamics

The surge for AC, a populist right-wing party led by Ripoll mayor Sílvia Orriols, reflects growing support in non-metropolitan areas. Nationally, AC would secure between 25 and 28 seats with 16.7% of the vote, up from 3.8% in 2024. Vox is also gaining, projected to win 12–13 seats across Catalonia, while the PP would remain around 13–15. On the left, Comuns would drop to four seats.

This poll confirms a clear realignment in Catalan politics, with AC consolidating itself as a major force outside Barcelona.
