Vila-seca's historic centre has been transformed with art made from recycled books for Sant Jordi 2026, thanks to students from the Diputació's School of Art and Design in Tarragona. The tenth edition of the 'Efímera: art al carrer' exhibition, an initiative by Vila-seca City Council, features sculptures and installations created by students of the Advanced Vocational Training Cycle in Applied Arts to Walls.
The 'Efímera' exhibition aims to bring art closer to the public and give new life to disused books, including encyclopaedias, textbooks, pocket books, and children's books. These materials are transformed into unique installations and sculptures displayed throughout the town.
This year's exhibition features six works distributed across various points in the Historic Centre. At Portal de Sant Antoni, visitors can see 'Fils d’història' (Threads of History) by Lídia Pérez and Karma García. Plaça de l’Església Vella hosts 'El Cicle' (The Cycle) by Rut Cano, Judith Navarro, and Marina Singleton.

Plaça de l’Església showcases three distinct pieces: 'La Rierada' (The Flood) by Abril Yerden, Aina Ferrer, and Lluïsa Rom; 'El pou de l’ànima' (The Well of the Soul) by Lucía Caño and Èrica Martínez; and 'Històries en fuga' (Stories in Flight) by Norma Pascual and Rocío Romero. Finally, in Plaça de Voltes, 'Passeig entre llibres' (Walk Among Books) by Heura Martí and Irene Yi Orti is on display.
The 'Efímera' project has established itself as a space for creation, experimentation, and connection between art, public spaces, and the community. It coincides with one of Catalonia's most significant cultural celebrations, Sant Jordi, which honours books and roses.
