Valls' Teatre Principal and Centre Cultural will host a new season of theatre, music, dance, and circus from September 2025 to January 2026, featuring acclaimed Catalan artists and local productions. The programme includes a return performance by Valls-born clown Pepa Plana.
The season aims to establish the venues as active cultural hubs in the region, according to Valls officials. It combines established names with local creative projects and shows for all ages.
Pre-season ticket sales have already broken records, with nearly 700 subscriptions sold. Concerts by Catalan bands Sau and Els Pets are almost sold out.
Pepa Plana Returns Home
One of the main attractions is the return of Pepa Plana to the Teatre Principal on 14 November. The award-winning clown will present "A cada pas" (At Every Step), her latest poetic journey of rediscovery. Plana, originally from Valls, is a celebrated figure in Catalan performing arts.
Other prominent artists scheduled to appear include actors Ramon Madaula, Jordi Boixaderas, Paco Mir, Àngels Gonyalons, Anna Sahun, and Nausicaa Bonnín. Comedians Peyu and Albert Pla are also part of the line-up.
Theatre Highlights
Theatre is a significant part of the programme, offering comedy, emotion, and reflection. October starts with "Un menú tancat" (A Closed Menu) on 4 October, a gastronomic comedy written and directed by Jordi Casanovas, starring Roger Coma, Joan Arqué, and Òscar Muñoz.
Later in October, "Hamlet" on 12 October will feature Albert Pla and Peyu in a comedic take on the classic, set in a hospital room. On 19 October, the Teatre Principal will stage "Boja" (Crazy), a monologue by Mariona Esplugues, a finalist for the BBVA Theatre Prize, which explores the actress's personal experiences with psychiatric consultations.
November brings more theatrical productions. In addition to Pepa Plana's show, "Dones de ràdio" (Radio Women) will premiere in Valls on 9 November. Directed by Sergi Belbel, it stars Àngels Gonyalons, Sara Espígul, and Sara Diego in a performance balancing comedy and drama.
The end of November features three shows for all audiences. "Corcs" (Woodworms) on 21 November is a circus and dance piece by Cia. Muta, part of the Territori Creatiu Vallenc initiative, with Mila Martínez as author, creator, and performer alongside Sait Tamir. "Solo" on 28 November, by Roi Borrallas, combines puppets, masks, and comedy. On 29 November, "La presència" (The Presence), a suspense play, stars Anna Sahun, Pau Roca, Marc Rodríguez, and Nausicaa Bonnín.
December includes "Els bons" (The Good Ones) on 7 December, directed by Paco Mir and featuring Ramon Madaula, Jordi Boixaderas, and Anna Casals. This comedy prompts reflection on what it means to be "good." The season concludes with the traditional Valls Christmas classic, "Els Pastorets Principals de Valls" by GTP, which will also present "Pastorets Júnior" with its youth cast.
Music and Dance Offerings
Music also plays a key role this autumn. On 18 October, the Centre Cultural will host "Un concert de pel·lícula" (A Film Concert) by Sau, an immersive audiovisual experience premiering in Valls with unreleased images and hits from the iconic Catalan band. On 5 and 6 December, Els Pets will celebrate 40 years with two nights reviewing their most emblematic albums.
Among the Amics de la Música de Valls programme, "La passió segons Frida" (The Passion According to Frida) on 2 October stands out. This production by the Vila-seca Ensemble combines music and theatre to explore the relationship between Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
Dance and audiovisual creation are also featured. "In-side: viatge d'un outsider" (In-side: Journey of an Outsider) on 20 September is a documentary directed by Carles Cubos, a Valls native. It offers an intimate look at the creative process behind "Outsider," a contemporary dance show by Ana Corredor and performed by the Evohé company last year.
Family and Youth Programmes
Family shows remain a critical part of the season. "La gata que volia canviar la història" (The Cat Who Wanted to Change History) by Thomas Noone Dance on 27 September is a tale of friendship inspired by Hindu tradition. November brings "Professor Bromera" (Professor Foam) on 15 November, offering physics lessons through experiments and soap bubbles. In December, "Sòmion. La ciutat dels oficis impossibles" (Sòmion. The City of Impossible Trades) on 13 December by El Que Ma Queda Teatre imagines a city with surprising and poetic trades.
A new project, "Ti@, ens veiem al teatre" (Hey, see you at the theatre), aims to encourage performing arts among young people aged 8 to 14. This initiative includes training sessions and two selected shows: "Hipstory" by Cia. Brodas Bros on 3 October, combining hip-hop and dance history, and Roi Borrallas's "Solo" on 28 November. Tickets are €5 and include pizza and a drink.
Tickets and season passes for the new Valls Theatres programme will be available from 10am on Monday, 8 September. Purchases can be made via the municipal website, www.valls.cat, or in person at the Teatre Principal box office. The box office will have extended hours from 12pm to 2pm and 6pm to 8pm until 17 September. From 19 September, regular hours will be Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm and non-holiday Fridays from 12pm to 1:30pm. Online sales are available 24 hours a day.
