Students from Valls and the Alt Camp region received international mobility scholarships from the Fundació Ciutat de Valls at a ceremony on Friday, 8 November 2024. The event marked the 21st edition of the Europa Scholarships for university students and the 9th edition of the Ramon Barbat i Miracle Scholarships for advanced vocational training students.

The ceremony took place in the Multipurpose Hall of the Ca Xapes Building in Valls. It was presided over by the Mayor of Valls, Dolors Farré, alongside the Rector Magnificus of Rovira i Virgili University, Dr. Josep Pallarès, the Director General of Universities for the Department of Research and Universities, Dr. Miquel Soriano, and Mateu Montserrat, President of the Alt Camp Regional Council.

Recognising Academic Achievement

Mayor Farré, who also serves as president of the Fundació Ciutat de Valls, opened the event with a welcome address. Jordi París, vice-president of the foundation, then explained the details of the Europa and Ramon Barbat i Miracle international mobility scholarship programmes. He also shared key data on the grants awarded during the recently concluded call.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of diplomas to the scholarship recipients. Each student received their diploma from the authorities present. Laia Martí López, a scholarship student, spoke on behalf of all beneficiaries. The Director General of Universities and the Rector of Rovira i Virgili University delivered the closing remarks.

These scholarships have enabled students to complete academic stays in twelve different countries. The programmes are supported by sponsoring companies and families from the Alt Camp region, according to officials.

Global Destinations for Local Students

For the 2024-2025 academic year, 24 students from Valls, Alcover, Alió, Figuerola del Camp, and Vallmoll received Europa Scholarships. These students are enrolled in various Catalan universities and undertook international academic stays in Germany, Argentina, Austria, Canada, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

Corporate sponsors for the Europa Scholarship programme include CATOR, SA; ISOGONA, SL; GRUP MICROS; CARBONELL FIGUERAS, SA; ESERMAN, SA; and SEGURDADES, SL. The Ramon Barbat i Miracle Scholarships, sponsored by the Barbat-Gili family, supported two students from the Jaume Huguet·Antiga Escola del Treball Institute, who completed their academic mobility stays in Sweden.
