The Municipal Cultural Centre in Valls will host the 42nd Nit de Premis (Awards Night) on 24 May, starting at 8pm. This year's ceremony will present 22 awards across 15 categories, recognising achievements in business, culture, education, heritage, and social commitment.
Organised jointly by the Fundació Ciutat de Valls, the Valls Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services, and Valls City Council, the event also receives support from the Tarragona Provincial Council, Cultura Valls, and TAC12. One of the most significant honours will be the 'Vallenc de l'Any' (Person of the Year from Valls) award.
Josep M. Selva Named 'Vallenc de l'Any'
International roller hockey player Josep M. "Jepi" Selva i Cristià has been named the 42nd 'Vallenc de l'Any'. This award, the oldest of the night, is decided by all participating entities of the Nit de Premis. They highlighted Selva's extensive career and sporting achievements as reasons for his selection.
The Civic Initiative award will go to the Jaume Huguet Institute, formerly known as the Escola del Treball (School of Work), which celebrates its centenary this year. Tickets for the dinner, priced at €43, can be reserved at the Chamber of Commerce until 16 May.
Recognising Business and Export Success
The Valls Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services will present several business awards. ESSITY SPAIN, SL will receive recognition for industrial implementation, expansion, and investment. AUTOESCOLA MARIO and FORBUS are to be honoured for their business trajectory.
In the export categories, MANUSA will be recognised for increasing exports, while ROSA GRES will receive an award for opening new markets. KELLANOVA-Kellogg's will be acknowledged for its long-standing and enduring export work, sponsored by CaixaBank.
Social Commitment and Education Awards
Vallsgenera, the Municipal Institute for Local Development, will present the 5th Social Commitment for Employment award to FÈLIX HOTEL RESIDÈNCIA, SL, specifically honouring Àngel Ricote Navarro. The 6th Josep Moncunill Cirac award for educational initiatives, supported by the Moncunill-Giró family, will go to ESCOLA LA CANDELA, which also receives €4,000.
CANTERAS PONDEROSA, SA will be awarded the 31st School-Business award by the ANESPRO Foundation. MÍRIAM BENÍTEZ TERREU of SPACE DIVIDERS, SL is the recipient of the Young Entrepreneur 2025 award from the Chamber of Commerce.
Healthcare, Journalism, and Heritage Honours
The Pius Hospital de Valls and Fundació Ciutat de Valls will present the 13th M. Teresa Gatell Vallvé award for care to individuals. This year, the award, which includes €2,000, will be shared by the INSTITUT JAUME HUGUET-ANTIGA ESCOLA DEL TREBALL and Mari Carmen Giménez Rodríguez.
The 30th Joan Ventura i Solé casteller journalism award, presented by Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls, will be awarded posthumously to Agustí Forné López. Josep Carles Rius will receive the 39th Cristina Requena Giró journalism award, which includes €1,200, from the Fundació Ciutat de Valls with support from the Requena-Giró family.
Safeguarding Alt Camp Heritage
The Institut d'Estudis Vallencs will present the Alt Camp Heritage Safeguard Awards 2025. The 25th Cultural Heritage Safeguard Award for private initiative goes to Maria Santiago and Laura Oliva for continuing the cultural tourism cooperative "Camins KM0". The public initiative award in this category is for La Riba City Council's "Paper Weekend in La Riba" initiative.
The 40th Architectural Heritage Safeguard Award for private initiative will recognise Xavier Domingo and Sílvia Vidales for restoring "Cal Joan de l'Hort" as a rural house in Nulles. Valls City Council will receive the public initiative award for rehabilitating the "Ca Xapes" building and converting it into a municipal public facility.
Finally, the 25th Civic Initiative award will be presented to the Institut Jaume Huguet-Antiga Escola del Treball by the Organising Committee of the Nit de Premis. The event aims to highlight the diverse contributions that strengthen the community and economy of Valls and the surrounding Alt Camp region.
