The Casteller Museum of Catalonia in Valls has announced a special programme of activities from 14 to 17 May. These events coincide with the local wine festival Valls va de Vins, Museum Night, and International Museum Day. The initiative aims to combine culture, heritage, gastronomy, and family activities to draw new visitors and make the museum a lively, engaging space throughout the weekend.
The programme starts on Thursday, 14 May, at 7.30pm with a Tarragona Designation of Origin wine tasting in the Casteller Museum square. This event is part of the Valls va de Vins festival, according to museum officials. It will allow visitors to pair local heritage and culture with regional produce in the museum's iconic setting.
Museum Night and Family Fun
On Saturday, 16 May, for Museum Night, the Casteller Museum will extend its opening hours from 10am to 10pm without interruption. Visitors who purchase museum tickets on this day will receive tasting vouchers to use at the Valls va de Vins activities. Additionally, from 10am to 2pm, the museum square will host family activities organised by Tribu Juganera.
This family programme is part of the new edition of Orgull Vallenc and is organised jointly with Orgull Vallenc and Casal Popular la Turba. In the evening, from 7pm to 10pm, the museum will offer free entry for self-guided tours, celebrating the European Museum Night.
International Museum Day Celebrations
The special programme will end on Sunday, 17 May, with International Museum Day. The museum will be open from 10am to 6pm continuously, offering free entry and self-guided tours all day. A popular chocolate party will take place from 10am to 11am, followed by a special children's tour for families from 11am to 12pm. Pre-booking is required for these activities via email or phone, according to the museum.
Through this special schedule, the Casteller Museum aims to be an open, accessible, and participatory cultural space. It seeks to connect with the cultural and social life of Valls and the wider region. The Casteller Museum of Catalonia, located in Valls, opened in 2023. It was developed with support from Valls City Council, the Government of Catalonia, Tarragona Provincial Council, and the Coordinator of Casteller Groups of Catalonia.
The project created a unique and new museum and experience centre in the heart of the Historic Centre, next to the emblematic Plaça del Blat, which is considered 'Km0' for casteller activities. Visitors to the new Casteller Museum can experience the emotions of human towers and learn about the values and traditions surrounding castells. This unique tradition has over two centuries of history and is recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
