Reus to gain city’s largest gym in former supermarket
The former Mercadona building in Reus’s Horts de Miró district is being transformed into the city’s largest gym, Nitro Gym Reus, with over 5,000 square metres dedicated to fitness and wellbeing. The new facility, located at 11 Carrer de Cels Gomis i Mestre, is currently under renovation and will replace the supermarket that closed in August 2021 after the chain opened a new store on Avinguda Marià Fortuny.
Full-service fitness centre with hybrid training zones
Nitro Gym Reus will feature a range of training areas including cardio, free weights, cross training and Hyrox, a hybrid fitness discipline combining strength and endurance. The centre will also include a dedicated Hybrid Zone with sleds, Air Bikes and rowing machines, aimed at both general fitness and competition preparation. Over 30 guided classes will be offered weekly, expanding training options beyond open-use zones.
Family-friendly amenities and year-round access
To support local families, the gym will include a childcare area and free parking for users. It will be open 365 days a year with daily access of more than 12 hours. The launch date has not yet been confirmed, though work is progressing and the opening is expected between late September and early October, pending schedule adherence. Nitro Gym Reus will join two existing Nitro-branded facilities in the city: Nitro Fitness Club, a functional training studio, and Nitro Suplementación, a sports nutrition shop in the same area.
