Valls is progressing with its plans for a new health park, following a visit by Health Minister Olga Pané on 9 May 2025. The minister toured the Pius Hospital and the Intermediate Care Centre to understand patient services and the future challenges presented by the health park project.

Both facilities currently serve the Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà regions, providing hospital and intermediate care. The new health park will bring these two centres, along with the local CAP (primary care centre), into a single 47,000 m² space in the coming years.

Transforming Healthcare in Valls

The project, a joint initiative by the Catalan Government's Department of Health and Valls City Council, aims to transform the Pius Hospital model. It will move beyond traditional inpatient care to become a reference point for intermediate care, boosting outpatient activities and short-stay admissions. This approach helps patients recover at home more quickly.

The health park is planned for construction on land at the south-east entrance of Valls, near the Estació promenade. Its location was chosen for easy access for residents, offering good connections within Valls and direct access to major roads linking the city with the Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà regions. The site is also less than 150 metres from the Valls bus station and close to the railway station.

Council to Prepare Site for Construction

Valls City Council will take on the urbanisation of the area. This is part of an agreement with the Department of Health to provide the land, fully serviced, to the Catalan Government for the construction of the new facilities. The council will soon tender the necessary planning modification works for the site.

During her visit, Minister Pané met with Valls Mayor Dolors Farré at the City Council. They discussed various aspects of the future health park project, among other topics. The next steps involve the council tendering the planning modifications, paving the way for the construction phase of this significant regional health initiative.
