This Friday, the Plaça de l'Absis in Tortosa will be the setting for the final Mapadeball dance show. Around 100 students from Dertosa and Cristòfol Despuig institutes will take part.
Over recent months, the students have been working on the piece 'UMHLABA', which means 'world' in Zulu. Sílvia Sant Funk and Mònica Muntaner created this work. The process has combined education, contemporary creation, and collective effort, ending with this public presentation.
About Mapadeball
Mapadeball is part of the Second Dance Promotion Plan 2023-2026, an initiative by the Culture Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The Mercat de les Flors and Xarxa Transversal lead the project, with coordination from the AGITART Technical Office.
This programme connects young people, teachers, artists, and cultural institutions. It forms a working network that links education and contemporary creation across Catalonia. The Culture and Education Programme, a joint effort by the Culture Department and the Department of Education and Vocational Training, supports its implementation.
In Tortosa, the project runs thanks to collaboration between the City Council and the participating educational centres. The Territorial Education Services and the Baix Ebre Educational Service (CRP) also provide support. Two performances are scheduled for Friday, 8 May.
