Three people were arrested in July and a fourth is under investigation over the alleged sabotage of a railway spur in Bages on 18 April 2026, according to a joint Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Civil statement. The incident affected internet subscribers in Súria and Cardona and, investigators said, could have endangered people.

Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, and the Guardia Civil said the investigation concerns damage to about 300 metres of the rail spur linking the facilities of a Súria potash-mine operator to the Port of Barcelona. The alleged damage occurred during protests called on social media between 17 and 19 April against the company's mining activities.

More than 4,000 subscribers lost internet access

Investigators said a main fibre-optic branch was also cut, disrupting internet connections for more than 4,000 subscribers across Súria and Cardona. The statement said the suspected group used techniques intended to make its members harder to identify.

The reported losses affected municipal property, public and private infrastructure, and the mining operator's activity.

"The sabotage of this infrastructure could have created a risk capable of endangering people's physical integrity or lives," the Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Civil said, referring to the investigation's conclusion.

Case is under the direction of Manresa court

Police attribute alleged offences of aggravated criminal damage, public disorder and membership of a criminal group to the detainees. The operation was led jointly by the Mossos d'Esquadra General Information Commissariat and the Guardia Civil.

The investigation is under the direction of Investigating Section 8 of the Manresa Court of First Instance. The three detainees and the police case file were brought before the court on 1 July.
