Migrants in Tarragona began processing their regularisation documents at the General Treasury of Social Security offices on Monday afternoon, marking the start of a new initiative by the Spanish government.

The process, which requires users to secure appointments in advance, has led to a "staggered attendance" at the Tarragona centre, avoiding the long queues often associated with such administrative procedures, local officials noted. This organised approach aims to ensure efficiency and a smoother experience for applicants.

The regularisation drive is seen as a significant step for many individuals seeking to formalise their status in Spain. Arwa González, a Venezuelan national who was one of the first to be attended, expressed her gratitude to the ACN news agency. She stated, "This process is an aid for all migrants who want to do things well, who come to grow and move forward."

The initiative addresses various needs, including family reunification and travel. Eliana Tur, from Argentina, is utilising the opportunity to process her 12-year-old daughter's documentation. This will enable her daughter to return to her home country and subsequently re-enter Spain without encountering legal or administrative problems, Tur explained.

Streamlining Migrant Status

The Spanish government's push for migrant regularisation aims to integrate individuals into the formal economy and society, providing legal certainty and access to essential services. This programme is part of broader efforts to manage migration flows and support those contributing to the country's development.

The regularisation process is expected to continue in Tarragona and other centres across Catalonia, offering a structured pathway for migrants to secure their legal status. Authorities anticipate a sustained demand for appointments as more individuals become aware of the opportunity.
