Paüls, in Tarragona province, marked the opening of its 23rd Cherry Festival on 8 June 2026, with Noemí Llauradó, President of the Tarragona Provincial Council, leading the ceremony.

Before the opening, Llauradó signed the town hall’s book of honour. She then went to the fairground, where she and Paüls Mayor Enric Adell cut the ribbon to begin the main festival programme.

In her speech, Llauradó described the festival as “a unique celebration that brings us the best of the countryside, crafts, commerce, and traditions of Paüls.” She said it helps support the local agri-food sector and reflects the resilience of the people of Paüls.

The opening also included an awards ceremony for the best cherries of the season, recognising local producers and the quality of the municipality’s fruit. After the ceremony, visitors walked through the streets of Paüls and visited the fair stalls.

The stalls featured crafts, local organisations, the Paüls cooperative, and more than 13 local cherry producers. Deputy Jesús Álvarez and the Mayor of Mas de Barberans, Daniela Lleixà, also attended the opening with the president and the municipal council.
