Migrants in Tarragona began processing their regularisation documents on Monday afternoon at the General Treasury of Social Security offices, marking the start of a new Spanish government initiative.
The process, which requires pre-booked appointments, ensured a staggered flow of applicants and prevented long queues at the Tarragona centre, according to local reports. This organised approach aims to streamline the documentation process for individuals seeking legal residency.
Migrants Welcome Regularisation Drive
Among the first to be attended was Arwa González from Venezuela, who told the ACN news agency that the initiative "is a help for all migrants who want to do things well, who come to grow and move forward." Another applicant, Eliana Tur from Argentina, was processing documentation for her twelve-year-old daughter, enabling them to return to their home country and re-enter Spain without future complications.
This regularisation drive provides a pathway for many non-EU citizens to formalise their status, offering access to employment, social services, and greater stability within Catalonia and Spain. The General Treasury of Social Security is responsible for managing these applications, ensuring compliance with national immigration laws.
The programme is expected to continue assisting numerous individuals across Catalonia, with offices like the one in Tarragona playing a key role in integrating migrants into society. The success of the staggered appointment system suggests a model for future administrative processes involving large numbers of applicants.
