Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Civil launched a major joint operation on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, targeting a criminal network allegedly involved in intensive marijuana cultivation and money laundering across Tarragona, Salou, and Torredembarra. The operation, which began at 9:30am, mobilised approximately 180 officers from both forces. Raids were carried out on homes and businesses in the aforementioned Catalan municipalities, as well as in the province of Granada, Spain, according to information from Mossos and Guardia Civil. At least one person was arrested in Tarragona or Torredembarra, Diari de Tarragona reported. The investigation remains under secrecy of proceedings. The police action specifically targeted businesses in two industrial estates: Riu Clar in Tarragona and Roques Planes in Torredembarra. The investigation aims to dismantle a criminal structure that combines large-scale marijuana production with mechanisms for concealing illicit profits through shell companies, officials said. Units participating in the deployment included the Mossos d'Esquadra's Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), specialised economic crime units, ARRO (riot police), scientific police, canine units, the Central Control Room, and citizen security agents. ## Wide-Ranging Investigation Mossos d'Esquadra confirmed the operation via social media, stating: "We are also maintaining an operation in towns in Tarragona and in Granada to dismantle an organisation dedicated to marijuana cultivation and money laundering. We are investigating several companies that could be linked to the criminal network." The police also clarified that this operation is separate from another parallel deployment conducted on the same Tuesday in Lleida, which also targeted a marijuana cultivation ring. Authorities expect further arrests in the coming hours as judicial proceedings continue in the open case.
