Tarragona province is facing a week of heavy and persistent rainfall, with a yellow alert for intense rain activated by the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) and Protecció Civil. The pre-alert for the INUNCAT plan remains active, according to officials.
Meteocat warns that rainfall could exceed 20 litres per square metre in just 30 minutes. The highest risk period is between 2pm and 8pm on Monday and Tuesday, with a danger level of 2 out of 6.
Provincial Impact and Safety Advice
The alert covers most of Tarragona province, excluding Baix Penedès and Tarragonès, where the most intense episodes are not expected. Despite this, authorities recommend extreme caution when travelling and advise avoiding flood-prone areas or known problem spots during peak rainfall.
The peak of the storm is forecast for Monday between 12pm and 6pm, coinciding with the highest probability of heavy precipitation. Protecció Civil reiterated the need for caution, especially on roads and in areas prone to water accumulation, as the weather could cause isolated incidents over the coming days.
Forecast for the Coming Days
The unstable weather is expected to ease during Tuesday morning, but conditions will worsen again in the afternoon. Alerts will reactivate across much of the province, again with the exception of Tarragonès and Baix Penedès.
By Wednesday, a general improvement is anticipated across most of the territory. However, light rain is still possible in parts of Montsià and Baix Ebre. After Wednesday, forecasts suggest intermittent rainfall will continue for the rest of the week, though with less intensity.
