Tarragona province is facing an exceptional heatwave, with temperatures already above 30C and expected to rise further over the next few days. The hot spell is part of a wider weather pattern affecting much of Europe, according to meteorologists.

The cause is a powerful, very warm anticyclone. This system is linked to a pattern known as a heat dome, or cúpula de calor in Spanish, which traps hot air over a region and keeps temperatures high.

In practical terms, that means the heat can build day after day instead of easing overnight. The current situation in Tarragona is a local example of that broader European pattern.

Residents are being advised to take basic precautions in the heat, including drinking plenty of water and avoiding direct sun during the hottest part of the day. For wider local coverage, see our news page.
