Major road improvements now complete
The Diputació de Tarragona has completed a €3.2 million upgrade of the T-310z and T-321 roads between Mont-roig del Camp and Vilanova d’Escornalbou, reopening the full three-kilometre stretch to traffic as of Saturday 26 September 2026. The work, carried out over 240 metres of the T-310z and 2.7 kilometres of the T-321 through the village of l’Arbocet, aimed to enhance road safety and ease travel between the two municipalities. The upgraded route now features an eight-metre-wide carriageway, widened bridges over the barranc de l’Olivera and Riera de la Font, and two new roundabouts, one at the junction of the T-310z and T-321, and another at the entrance to l’Arbocet. These changes are expected to reduce traffic speeds and improve flow at key intersections.
Safety, drainage and future connectivity upgrades
Alongside structural improvements, the project included enhanced drainage systems, drivable kerbs, updated horizontal and vertical road signage, and lighting installations at both roundabouts. A buried telecommunications conduit has also been laid to support future fibre optic deployment, aligning with regional digital infrastructure goals. More than 150 workers were involved in the project, which forms part of the Diputació’s broader Programme for Investment in the Local Road Network. Around 2,800 vehicles use this corridor daily, including heavy goods vehicles previously rerouted through Mont-roig town centre during construction.

Noemí Llauradó, president of the Diputació de Tarragona, officially inaugurated the works on Saturday alongside local mayors and officials. She highlighted the safety gains, while infrastructure deputy Iris Castell noted the project’s adaptation to current climate resilience standards. Xavier Garcia, mayor of Vilanova d’Escornalbou, and Fran Morancho, mayor of Mont-roig del Camp and vice-president of the Diputació, welcomed the improved connection between their towns and thanked the provincial authority for delivering the project.
Additional municipal investments confirmed
During the visit, Llauradó also reviewed other Diputació-funded works in Vilanova d’Escornalbou under the Pla ImpulsDipta. These include the second phase of improvements to Avinguda Catalunya, costing €90,083.75 and featuring a new pavement and cycle lane, and €41,503 spent on replacing windows and doors at Escola Font de l’Arc to improve thermal efficiency and energy savings.
