In Sant Feliu de Guíxols, around 30 volunteer divers removed wet wipes from the seabed on 7 June 2026 as part of a campaign led by the Sublimits diving centre.

The cleanup focused on an area that has seen a build-up of wipes. Although filtering systems are in place, a stream flows into the sea there, and marine currents cause waste to gather near the coast.

Lola Cervantes, director of the Sublimits centre, said: “Here there is a carpet of wet wipes.” The campaign is intended to raise awareness of the environmental impact of this difficult-to-recycle waste.

Organisers said they expect to collect a similar amount to last year, when the same campaign removed 300 kilograms of wet wipes. The effort also aims to encourage responsible disposal and reduce long-term damage to marine ecosystems.
