Salou's new Institut Escola Cap de Salou has appointed its leadership team ahead of its September opening, as the city prepares to add a new public education centre in Cap de Salou.
Mayor Pere Granados and Education Councillor Júlia Gómez met the team on 11 June 2026. The group included director Carmina Torres Sanz, secretary Francesc Gomis García, early childhood education teacher Gemma Munté Munné, and Montserrat Fortuny, director of Territorial Education Services in Tarragona.
Torres Sanz presented the educational project, which is intended to be a centre for quality education, community involvement, and new teaching methods. The school plans to be open and participatory, with families playing a central role in the educational community.
The project also aims to connect students with Salou's social, cultural, and natural environment. Catalan will be the main language of instruction and cohesion, with a strong emphasis on English. Music and arts are also key parts of the plan, alongside active teaching methods and academic rigour.
The leadership team said the school will provide continuity from early childhood education through to fourth year of ESO, with a shared educational identity across all stages. The council said the new centre responds to a long-standing demand from residents of Cap de Salou and will help manage live enrolment from families moving to the town.
Granados thanked the Generalitat de Catalunya for its collaboration and said the council remains committed to ensuring the centre has the conditions needed to operate properly. Fortuny said the team is well prepared and that the priority is to provide the highest quality education and services for students and families. More local news
