Salou hosted the first Local Data Governance Conference on 12 June 2026, bringing together representatives from 22 Catalan councils. Organised by Salou's Data Office, the event focused on sharing experiences, knowledge and good practices for strategic data management in public administration.

Salou Mayor Pere Granados opened the conference, joined by Eduardo Abenojar, Councillor for Digital Transformation, Innovation and Urban Intelligence, and Yeray Moreno, Councillor for Good Governance. A councillor from Calafell and Pep Budí, Deputy Director of Digital Transformation for the AOC Consortium, also attended.

Granados said data has become an essential strategic asset for public management. He said the challenge is not only to collect information, but to govern it, protect it and turn it into useful knowledge that helps councils make better decisions and improve services.

Salou also pointed to its recent digital progress. The municipality said it has received recognition from the AOC Consortium for the eighth consecutive year, placing it among the top ten Catalan municipalities for digital maturity. It also highlighted the approval of its Data Governance Master Plan and the creation of its Data Office and Data Governance Committee.

Abenojar said there is no single data governance model, because each council has different sizes and needs. He added that all councils share the need for quality data to build more efficient, intelligent and decision-oriented organisations. He also called for more spaces where municipalities can share methods, procedures and knowledge.

The conference included municipalities such as El Prat de Llobregat, Mataró, Sabadell, Tarragona and Salou, which took part in discussion panels. The event underlined Salou's role in digital transformation and its focus on a modern, citizen-focused public administration. For more Catalonia-wide local government coverage, see News.
