Mossos d'Esquadra arrested four young people, including a minor, in Salou, Tarragona, on Wednesday, 22 April, for allegedly causing extensive vehicle damage by breaking the wing mirrors of 16 parked cars.
The incident unfolded around 5am on Carrer del Nord (North Street) when a police patrol from Salou observed a group of four youths in the area. Their quickened pace and rapid departure upon noticing the officers immediately raised suspicions, according to police sources.
Minutes later, a concerned citizen alerted the patrol to significant damage on several parked cars along the very same street. The description provided by the witness fully matched the individuals the officers had previously observed, linking them directly to the acts of vandalism.
Initial investigations indicate that the perpetrators systematically walked along the initial section of Carrer del Nord, specifically from its junction with Plaça Europa to approximately the middle of the road. During this spree, they used kicks or punches to deliberately damage the wing mirrors of the vehicles parked there. Officers quickly located the four suspects about 50 metres from the scene and, following thorough checks, confirmed damage to a total of 16 vehicles.
Suspected Intoxication and Legal Outcome
The Mossos d'Esquadra proceeded with the arrests of the four individuals, comprising three adults aged between 18 and 19 years old, and one minor. All evidence gathered strongly suggests that the group had been drinking prior to the incident, officials said.
Following their detention, the minor was placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office. The three adult detainees appeared before the Investigating Court number 3 in Tarragona on Thursday, where they were subsequently released with charges as the legal process continues.
