Joint Measures to Protect Farmers
The town of El Morell has hosted a coordination meeting between local councils, regional police and farming representatives to strengthen rural security during the 2025 harvest season. Representatives from Perafort, Vilallonga del Camp, Constantí, La Pobla de Mafumet, La Selva del Camp and El Morell joined officers from the Mossos d’Esquadra in Valls, Reus and Tarragona, alongside members of Unió de Pagesos. The meeting, held for the third consecutive year, focused on preventing thefts and criminal incidents in agricultural areas, particularly during the harvesting of hazelnuts, almonds, beans and olives.
Enhanced Police Coordination
Authorities agreed to intensify police patrols in rural areas and improve coordination between municipal guards and the Mossos d'Esquadra. A direct WhatsApp channel will be used to share real-time information on suspicious vehicles, people or activity. Municipal officials stressed the importance of properly recording all incidents. They have formally requested that Mossos d’Esquadra collect theft reports directly at farm sites where possible, to avoid forcing farmers to travel to Tarragona for formal procedures.

Ongoing Monitoring and Review
The security cooperation will remain active throughout the harvest period, which runs from late summer through December. Municipalities, police units and Unió de Pagesos plan to meet again in early January 2026 to assess the number of incidents recorded, evaluate the effectiveness of the measures taken and discuss improvements for future seasons.
