The port of Roses, located in the Alt Empordà region, participated in the Seatrade Cruise Global 2026 fair in Miami Beach, Florida, from 13 to 16 April. This event saw Catalonia, through the public company Ports de la Generalitat, promote its ports in Palamós (Baix Empordà), Roses, and La Ràpita (Montsià), along with the tourist destinations of Costa Brava and Terres de l'Ebre.
The fair, a major international showcase for the cruise industry, attracted 650 exhibitors, 80 cruise lines, and 11,500 visitors from 125 countries. It focused on innovation, sustainability, quality, port development, and new tourist experiences, bringing together companies, ports, tourism boards, councils, tour operators, and international media.
Promoting Catalan Ports Globally
The Generalitat's delegation was led by Esther Roca, Director General of Ports de la Generalitat. She was accompanied by Sara Valls, the company's Cruise and Commercial Promotion technician, and Sílvia Romero, head of Tourism and Promotion for Palamós Council. Their schedule included meetings with major cruise companies to introduce the ports and the activities offered by the destinations.
The representatives also met with shipping companies that have previously visited the three Catalan ports to strengthen those relationships. A key objective was to attract new, high-quality cruise lines that prioritise sustainability and respect for the environment, for both the Costa Brava and Terres de l'Ebre. These meetings allowed the delegation to highlight the features and quality services of the three ports, as well as the wide range of experiences available to cruise tourists in the municipalities and destinations.
Collaborative Promotion Efforts
This commercial activity forms part of annual promotion plans designed to boost cruise activity in Catalonia. Participating in this international fair helps to strengthen the global position of the three Catalan ports and their associated tourist destinations within the international cruise sector.
The promotion of Palamós, Roses, and La Ràpita ports is carried out under the brands Costa Brava Cruise Ports and Delta Ebre Port. Costa Brava Cruise Ports includes Ports de la Generalitat, the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board, Palamós Council, Roses Council, Palamós Chamber of Commerce, and Girona Chamber of Commerce. Delta Ebre Port is made up of Ports de la Generalitat, La Ràpita Council, the Tarragona Provincial Council Tourism Board in Terres de l'Ebre, and Tortosa Chamber of Commerce.
