Reus has marked the start of its Sant Pere Festival with the 13th edition of Hola Sant Pere, as around 1,200 schoolchildren from more than 30 schools took part in a large mural in Plaça del Mercadal.

The event was organised by Canal Reus and centred on the Ball de Galeres, a traditional dance linked to the city’s festival. The mural gave pupils a chance to take part in a shared activity tied to local customs and celebrations.

Marc Càmara, deputy director of Canal Reus, said the aim is to encourage children and schools to value the main festival and help keep Reus’s cultural and heritage legacy alive.

Hola Sant Pere has become a regular pre-festival activity in Reus, with schools playing a central part in the event. Organisers say the format helps make the festival’s traditions more accessible to younger generations.

The long-term goal, according to Canal Reus, is to help ensure the future of the Sant Pere Festival by building knowledge and interest among local children. The main festival is due to begin later this month, with a full programme expected.
