Residents of Carrer de Martí Napolità in central Reus have raised concerns about safety, street cleanliness and the welfare of a dog at a building they describe as occupied. They say the situation has disrupted daily life since January, particularly for people entering or leaving homes nearby, and have lodged complaints with the Ajuntament de Reus, the city council, and the Sindicatura de Greuges, Catalonia's public ombudsman.

One resident, quoted by Reusdigital.cat, said people regularly move to and from the building and that its entrance is often left open. Residents also reported hearing bangs and said violent incidents have occurred around the entrance.

“We have to be on guard every time we want to enter or leave our own homes,” one resident told Reusdigital.cat.

The resident said that calls are made to police when incidents occur, and alleged that officers do not always attend. The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, and the Guàrdia Urbana, Reus's municipal police force, are both named in accounts of the situation.

Police operations at the street's buildings

The Ajuntament de Reus has confirmed that the Guàrdia Urbana has carried out several interventions both at the building and in the street. Reusdigital.cat also reported that the Mossos have made arrests at the building in recent months.

A police operation reported on 5 June 2026 led to the arrest of two men, aged 20 and 40, after Mossos officers entered two flats in the same Martí Napolità building. Police sources said the flats were being used to sell drugs and that officers seized cocaine, marijuana, hashish, cash and a large bladed weapon.

In a separate operation on 6 March 2025, Mossos arrested three men following searches of two Martí Napolità flats and a farmhouse outside Reus. Canal Reus reported that officers seized about 100 grams of hashish, 100 grams of marijuana and 400 grams of cocaine from the flats, alongside other items.

Dog welfare and rubbish complaints

Residents also allege that a dog is kept on a balcony in very limited space and is taken for walks only once a week. During the June 2026 operation, police found several dogs inside the home, according to Reusdigital.cat; the animals were placed in police custody while procedures connected with the detainees were resolved.

The group has also complained about bags containing clothing, cardboard and plastic being left beside street bins. They say municipal cleaning crews pass each morning but rubbish returns later in the day.

Residents have proposed an anti-occupation security door or another access-control system for the building, while their complaints to the city council and the Sindicatura de Greuges remain under consideration.
