Storm prompts suspension of high-speed and regional services

Renfe has suspended multiple long-distance trains on the Mediterranean corridor from 6pm on Thursday 1 October 2026 due to forecast heavy rains and a red weather alert issued by Spain’s meteorological agency Aemet across southern Catalonia and the Valencian Community. The decision affects Euromed, Intercity, and Alvia services linking Catalonia and the Valencian region. According to Renfe, the Alvia service from Córdoba to Barcelona Sants (scheduled arrival at 20:51) will be cancelled as of Valencia. Additionally, four key services have been scrapped: the Euromed from Alicante to Barcelona Sants at 16:37, the Euromed from Figueres Vilafant to Alicante at 17:04, the Intercity from Valencia Nord to Barcelona Sants at 17:30, and the Euromed from Barcelona Sants to Valencia Nord at 20:15.

Avant and regional services altered

The Avant Express departing Barcelona Sants at 17:50 for Tortosa will terminate early at Camp de Tarragona. As a result, tomorrow morning's return service will not depart from Tortosa as usual; instead, it will leave from Camp de Tarragona at 7:12. Two regional Rodalies R16 services from Barcelona Estació de França to Tortosa, scheduled for 19:15 and 20:45, may also be cut short. Depending on weather conditions, both could end their journeys in Tarragona rather than continuing to Tortosa.

Renfe has prioritised the safety of passengers and staff amid deteriorating weather conditions along the corridor.

Passengers affected by cancellations have been notified and can request changes or refunds via renfe.com. The operator stressed that updates will be provided in real time to help travellers adjust plans and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
