Dozens of Roads Closed Due to Landslides and Flooding
As of Sunday afternoon, 14 roads in Catalonia remain closed due to landslides or flooding caused by persistent heavy rain, according to the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service). The worst-affected areas are in the provinces of Girona and Barcelona, where dangerous conditions continue to disrupt travel.
Landslide Closures Affect Major Routes
Roads blocked by landslides include the B-500 between Sant Fost de Campsentelles and Tiana, the BV-1415 from Cerdanyola to Barcelona, the BV-1462 linking Barcelona and Sant Cugat del Vallès, and the BV-5001 from Vilanova del Vallès to La Roca. Additional closures are reported on the BV-5119 in Fogars de Montclús, the C-1413a in Sentmenat, the C-1415a in Castellar del Vallès, the C-1415c in La Roca, and the C-352 in Les Franqueses del Vallès. The C-16 is partially closed due to rockfalls in Sant Cugat, with traffic being diverted onto the opposite carriageway.
Flooding Blocks Key Arteries
Several roads are impassable due to flooding. These include the BV-5122 in Tordera, the C-1413a in El Papiol, the C-352 between Les Franqueses and Canovelles, and the GI-682 in Blanes. Earlier on Sunday, the N-II was closed between Montgat and El Masnou due to inundations, as confirmed by both the Catalan Traffic Service and Protecció Civil. The C-32 was also temporarily shut in Esplugues at kilometre 61.5 in the direction of Llobregat, though this section has since reopened after debris was cleared.
Residents are urged to avoid non-essential travel in the 20 affected comarcas until at least 14:00 on Sunday.
River Levels and Warnings Remain Critical
The situation remains tense in the Besòs river basin, where flow rates reached 900 cubic metres per second early Sunday morning, posing a serious flood risk, according to the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (Catalan Water Agency). Meteocat continues to issue its highest-level weather alert, 6 out of 6, with some areas expected to receive over 200 litres of rain per square metre within 24 hours. Rainfall is forecast to shift northward during the day, potentially affecting regions in Girona into the night. The public is advised to monitor updates via the Servei Català de Trànsit website for real-time road conditions and detours.
