The R8 Rodalies line in the Barcelona metropolitan area is currently interrupted between Rubí Can Vallhonrat and Cerdanyola Universitat following the derailment of a freight train's locomotive and first wagon near Rubí. The incident occurred at approximately 11:50 on 8 May 2026, close to Rubí station on the Sant Cugat side, according to Metrópoli Abierta.
No injuries have been reported, and officials confirmed the train was not carrying dangerous goods. As a result of the derailment, the R8 service is now ending its journey at Cerdanyola Universitat. Renfe is organising alternative road transport for passengers travelling between Cerdanyola Universitat and Martorell.
Investigation Underway
The freight train was travelling from Can Tunis to the French border when it derailed. The causes of the incident are currently under investigation. Adif, the railway infrastructure manager, is deploying technical and human resources to the site to start work on restoring normal train circulation.
However, a timeline for when the service will be fully reinstated has not yet been announced. Passengers are advised to check for updates regarding the alternative transport arrangements and the expected duration of the disruption.
