New professional firefighters assigned to Puigcerdà visited the Cadí Tunnel on Thursday to familiarise themselves with the facility and coordinate emergency responses with tunnel management.
The agents, recently posted to the Cerdanya region, inspected the tunnel gallery and control centres. This visit forms part of a training and coordination plan for new fire service personnel in the area.
The main goal is to ensure firefighters understand the region's critical infrastructure, allowing them to respond effectively to any incident, according to officials. During their visit, the firefighters learned about the tunnel's safety systems, available emergency equipment, and operational protocols for fires, accidents, or other risks.
They also met with tunnel managers to establish clear communication channels and ensure a swift, coordinated response.
Enhancing Regional Safety
The Cadí Tunnel is a key transport link for the Cerdanya region. Its smooth operation is essential for local safety, officials said. The presence of well-trained professional firefighters, working closely with infrastructure managers, is another step towards securing the safety of all tunnel users.
