Puigcerdà, in Girona, is speeding up street maintenance and public works before the summer tourist season. The council says the work is aimed at fixing damage, improving safety and keeping key public spaces in better condition as visitor numbers rise in the Cerdanya capital.
The main work is taking place in Plaça de Santa Maria, where damaged granite pieces are being replaced at the two entrances linked to the extension of Carrer Major, and at the square entrance from Carrer Espanya. The council says the repairs are intended to remove uneven paving, improve pedestrian safety and keep one of the town’s busiest central spaces in good order.
Work is also under way in Vilallobent, where the Municipal Brigade has conditioned and levelled a 300-metre stretch of the path connecting the village to Pont de la Vanera. The council says this will improve access for residents and for people using the route in the surrounding rural area.
According to the council, these interventions are part of routine public space maintenance, but they matter more as the high season approaches. Puigcerdà expects a significant increase in visitors in summer, which puts more pressure on streets, squares and local facilities.
Some areas may be partly cordoned off while the work is carried out, and there may be temporary disruption for pedestrians. The council says the aim is to limit inconvenience and keep movement through the town as smooth as possible while the repairs are completed.
