Roundabout Planned for Accident-Prone Junction
The PSC will present a proposal at Sant Cugat's municipal plenary to build two roundabouts at high-traffic, accident-prone intersections in the city. One of the key locations is the junction at the entrance to the Arrabassada neighbourhood, where Avinguda de Gràcia meets Carrer de Sant Crist de Llaceres. Currently regulated by traffic lights, the PSC argues the junction poses safety risks due to high vehicle speeds and existing traffic conditions. The party is calling for technical and mobility studies to be commissioned to assess the feasibility of replacing the lights with a roundabout.
Push for Permanent Solution on Rubí Road
The second proposed roundabout is at the intersection of Carretera de Rubí and Avinguda dels Països Catalans, a major access point to the Can Mates and Mira-sol districts. In August, the Sant Cugat council banned left turns into Can Mates to reduce accidents, calling it a temporary measure. Since then, the council has begun work on a temporary reconfiguration using road paint and concrete New Jersey barriers to simulate a roundabout. The PSC is urging that the final solution be a permanent roundabout, arguing it would better manage traffic movements and improve safety.
Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety Included
Alongside the roundabout proposals, the PSC is calling for future mobility projects to include safe pedestrian routes, continuous cycling paths, proper lighting, and universal accessibility measures. This aligns with broader regional efforts, including the recent completion of a new bike lane on Carretera de Rubí connecting Sant Cugat and L’Hospitalet, as confirmed by the municipal press office.
