Barcelona, the Port of Barcelona has invested €591,000, excluding VAT, in two new heavy-duty trucks and a tank container for the Barcelona Fire Service. The purchase is part of a collaboration agreement between the Port of Barcelona and Barcelona City Council’s Civil Protection, Prevention, Fire Extinction and Rescue Service.

The handover took place today at Barcelona’s dock. Albert Batlle, Deputy Mayor for Security, Prevention, Coexistence and Internal Affairs, and José Alberto Carbonell, President of the Port of Barcelona, attended the event. The trucks are three-axle heavy vehicles fitted with an articulated crane and a hydraulic system for loading and unloading containers used by firefighters during port operations.

The tank container is due to be delivered later this month. According to officials, the new vehicles offer better performance than older models, with more powerful and efficient engines, greater load capacity and a crane with more reach and lifting power. They also include sensors, 360-degree cameras and crane controls that can be operated from inside and outside the cabin.

The investment forms part of a wider agreement between the Port Authority and the city’s emergency services, which has now been extended until 2030. The partnership began in 1995 and is intended to support prevention and a rapid response if an incident happens in the port area. More local news

The current agreement was originally signed in 2022 for four years and has now been extended for another four years. Its maximum value is €2.9 million, with €2.4 million set aside for vehicles and equipment and €500,000 for training. That training covers the port’s operations, the goods handled there, and firefighting techniques on commercial and passenger vessels.
