Pope Leo XIV could visit the Sant Agustí parish in Barcelona's Raval neighbourhood during his trip to the city in early June. According to the online portal Religión Digital, the Augustinian monks' congregation has been preparing the facilities for weeks to receive Leo XIV.

The parish is located near Carrer de l’Hospital. As of the publication of this article, the Vatican had not yet confirmed the Pope's official agenda in Catalonia. Sources from the Archdiocese of Barcelona referred to this fact, indicating that the published information is “not official”. These sources did not specify when details of Leo XIV's visit and the places he will visit would be announced.

Confirmed Mass at Sagrada Família

Leo XIV is scheduled to visit Barcelona on 9 and 10 June, arriving in the Catalan capital by plane. Among the confirmed events is a mass at the Sagrada Família basilica on 10 June, coinciding with the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death. During the celebration at the Sagrada Família, the pontiff might announce the beatification of the architect, who died after being hit by a tram on 10 June 1926.

The Pope's agenda could also include a large gathering at the Olympic Stadium and a visit to Montserrat Abbey. He will spend approximately 36 hours in Catalonia and stay two nights in Barcelona. Religión Digital previously reported that Leo XIV might also bless Sister Lucía Caram's ambulance project. A visit to the Santa Anna church's field hospital was considered but reportedly ruled out for security reasons.

Security Preparations Underway

Pope Leo XIV's security personnel have already inspected the locations he is expected to visit. As a head of state, the Pope's security depends on the Spanish government. The Secretary of State for Security and the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's police force, have been working on the master security plan for some time. The Archdiocese of Barcelona and the Sagrada Família basilica have launched a website, “Alça la mirada amb el papa Lleó XIV” (Look up with Pope Leo XIV), which will provide information about the Pope's trip to Barcelona.

The pontiff's visit will also include other parts of Spain, such as the Canary Islands and Madrid, and will last from 6 to 12 June.
