Barcelona will see Pope Leo XIV travel through the city in his popemobile this Wednesday, on a 15-minute route from Passeig de Gràcia, with Diagonal, to the Sagrada Família.

The visit is expected to draw significant crowds to the city centre. Local authorities have advised residents and visitors to plan their journeys accordingly, as temporary road closures will be in place along the route.

Security preparations are underway to help ensure the safety of the Pope and the public. City officials say specific viewing areas will be designated, and access to some streets will be restricted during the event. Details on public access points and security checkpoints are expected closer to the date.

The Sagrada Família, designed by Antoni Gaudí, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Barcelona’s best-known landmarks. The Pope’s arrival there will mark the end of his brief tour through the city.

Further announcements on the Pope’s full itinerary and any additional public appearances are expected in the coming days. For more Catalonia-wide news, see our news coverage.
