An 80-year-old man from Pinós, in the Solsonès region of Lleida, who disappeared on Monday, was found dead inside a well in Cardona, Barcelona, on Tuesday afternoon. The body was discovered by the Generalitat Firefighters around 5pm, approximately 30 metres from his vehicle.

The man, who lived in a farmhouse in Ardèvol, a village within Pinós, had been reported missing by his family on Monday evening around 10pm after he failed to return home. He had left in his grey Suzuki Grand Vitara, registration L-3296-AJ.

Search efforts began on Monday night and intensified on Tuesday, focusing on paths in Pinós and neighbouring municipalities such as Riner, Torà, La Molsosa, and Cardona. The search involved firefighters, Mossos d'Esquadra, and local volunteers.

Search and Discovery Details

The coordination point for the search was established at the volunteer fire station in Pinós, next to the town hall. From there, emergency services and volunteers organised their search parties. Local Police forces from Solsona and Cardona were also asked to help.

Pinós mayor Xavier Vilalta told reporters at midday on Tuesday that "the whole town is mobilised" and acknowledged the difficulty of the search due to the lack of initial clues. "It is a very extensive territory with a lot of vegetation," he explained. According to the mayor, the man "went out with his car every day and did not say where he was going."

His vehicle was found in an area between Cardona and Sant Mateu del Bages in the early afternoon on Tuesday. Shortly after, volunteer firefighters located a body inside a well. Authorities then worked to recover the body and formally identify the deceased.
