Emergency services were called to two separate incidents in the Lleida area on Thursday, first in Vilanova de Meià and later in Maials.
In Vilanova de Meià, a paraglider was injured after a fall at 12:39pm. The Bombers de la Generalitat sent a helicopter with the Mountain Rescue Group (GRAE) and a ground unit, and a doctor from the Medical Emergency System (SEM) also attended the scene.
The day also saw other emergency responses across Catalonia, including a 72-year-old climber rescued in Fígols after feeling unwell, a scooter rider injured in a collision with a vehicle in Alcarràs, a minor hit by a vehicle on Mare Jané street in La Seu, and a 70-year-old hiker rescued after a fall in the Vall de Boí.
Later on Thursday, eight people travelling in a van were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Maials, on the C-12 at kilometre 102 towards Lleida. The alert came in at 6:09pm. The crash involved two lorries and a van, according to the Catalan Traffic Service.
All eight van occupants suffered less serious injuries. Six were taken by SEM to Arnau de Vilanova Hospital in Lleida, and two were taken to Mora d'Ebre Hospital. The Bombers de la Generalitat sent one unit, and SEM deployed three ambulances. The lorry drivers were not injured.
Authorities are investigating both incidents. For more Catalonia-wide updates, see our news coverage.
