Nomen Foods has invested €1.1 million to expand and modernise its rice production plant in Deltebre, Baix Ebre. The project, announced during a visit by government officials, aims to increase the company's packaging and end-of-line capacity by 15% to 20%.
This investment will improve operational efficiency and production flexibility for the rice company. New machinery has also been acquired, allowing Nomen Foods to develop new packaging formats, particularly for international markets. These include formats tailored for British consumers and value-added channels.
The expansion received support from ACCIÓ, the Department of Business's agency, and a grant of €515,000 from the Nuclear Transition Fund. Jaume Baró Torres, Secretary of Business and Competitiveness and CEO of ACCIÓ, visited the plant on Tuesday, accompanied by Joan Castor Gonell, the Government Delegate in Terres de l'Ebre.
Boosting Competitiveness and International Reach
Raül Carles, the corporate director of Nomen Foods, stated that this investment is "key to strengthening Nomen Foods' industrial competitiveness and adapting to new market demands, both in production efficiency and format diversification." He added that it allows the company to "grow from the territory, generate more added value, and advance in the strategy of opening up to new international markets, maintaining our commitment to sustainability and the Ebre Delta."
Baró highlighted Nomen Foods' role as a "key player in the industrial and business fabric of Terres de l'Ebre, with a firm and decisive commitment to offering a recognised and valuable product." He also emphasised the "essential" support from the Nuclear Transition Fund in helping companies consolidate an economic model that generates shared prosperity in Terres de l'Ebre.
A Commitment to Sustainability
Nomen Foods was established in 2017 in Deltebre and is part of Arrossaires del Delta de l'Ebre, a cooperative that produces approximately 35,000 tonnes of rice annually in the Ebre Delta. The company is also the first rice company globally to achieve B Corp certification, which recognises companies with high social, environmental, and community standards.
Moving forward, the company plans to focus on integrating these new capacities to meet growing demand and further expand its presence in global markets. The investment is expected to solidify Nomen Foods' position as a leader in sustainable rice production and innovation.
