In Reus, Nestlé España and union representatives have reached a pre-agreement that reduces the number of jobs affected by a redundancy plan from 301 to 242 across Spain, according to UGT on Thursday.
The original redundancy plan, known as an ERE, would have affected 178 workers in Catalonia. Those jobs were spread across Nestlé’s three Catalan plants in Esplugues de Llobregat, Girona and Reus.
The agreement includes 68 voluntary reassignments within the Nestlé group. Of these, 53 will be within Nestlé España and 15 at Nestlé Global Services Spain.
UGT said the terms for workers facing redundancy have also improved. They will receive 45 days’ salary for each year worked, up to a maximum of 42 months’ pay, and seniority will be calculated from the employee’s first contract with the company.
Nestlé said the redundancy plan was linked to several factors, including the growth of private label brands, ongoing digitalisation and the automation of production processes. For more Catalonia-wide business and labour updates, see News.
