In Girona, Nestlé management and the majority of the workers’ representative committee have reached a pre-agreement to reduce the impact of the redundancy programme announced by the multinational company.

The deal, which still needs to be ratified by the workforce, lowers the maximum number of affected employees across Spain from 301 to 242. It also includes the creation of more than 60 new jobs, with 25 of those posts at the Girona plant.

The Girona roles are linked to the new facilities for manufacturing NEO biodegradable capsules. The agreement is intended to soften the effect of the original plan, which had raised concern among employees.

According to the company and worker representatives, the reduction in the number of affected workers marks a significant change from the first proposal. The new posts are tied to Nestlé’s investment in sustainable manufacturing.

The next step is a vote by the workforce. If ratified, the terms will be formally implemented and the reduced redundancy figures will be finalised.
