Girona, Catalonia: Municipalities across the Girona region will be able to join the mot mobile parking app after a new agreement between provincial bodies signed on 28 May 2026.
The deal was signed by BASE-Gestió d’Ingressos, an autonomous body of Tarragona Provincial Council, and Xarxa Local de Municipis Gironins, known as XALOC, an autonomous body of Girona Provincial Council. It allows interested Girona councils to join the shared technology platform free of charge.
The mot app, managed by Tarragona Provincial Council since 2024, is already used in Reus, Tarragona, Salou and Cambrils, covering the Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre and Baix Penedès areas. It is already active in Girona city, and the new agreement extends access to the rest of the Girona demarcation. For more local coverage, see news.
Officials said the initiative is intended to give councils a secure and efficient tool, while improving public management and the daily experience for residents. XALOC will act as the local facilitator for councils, while BASE-Gestió d’Ingressos will handle technological maintenance, development and operational support for the platform.
The initial agreement lasts four years and can be extended. Officials said it also creates a base for future urban mobility features and services.
The app lets users manage regulated parking from their phones, including activating or extending parking time without using a parking meter. Because it is a single public platform shared by participating municipalities, residents can use the same app in different towns without downloading multiple tools or creating several accounts.
