The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the theft of at least ten mobile phones at the Delirium Festival, an electronic music event held on 16 May in Pineda Fosca, Cassà de la Selva, Girona. Around 3,500 people attended the festival. So far, Catalan police have received four formal complaints, but they are aware of ten stolen phones and expect more reports in the coming days. The festival organisers believe approximately fifteen phones went missing.

The Girona Mossos d'Esquadra's Investigation Unit has started an enquiry to identify and arrest those responsible. Police are using data, such as the geolocation of the stolen devices, to track the suspects' movements. It is not yet known if a single individual was involved or if a group specialising in mobile phone thefts at large gatherings, like music festivals, nightclubs, or fairs, was operating.

Security Measures at Delirium Festival

Delirium Festival organisers told Diari de Girona that this year's event included private security. They also stated they are working closely with the local police in Cassà de la Selva and the Mossos d'Esquadra to prevent thefts. On the day of the festival, organisers advised attendees to be careful with their belongings and provided lanyards for phones, allowing people to wear their devices around their necks for added security during the fourteen hours of continuous music.

This type of theft is not uncommon at large-scale events. Police often find organised groups targetting crowds, making it difficult for individual attendees to keep track of their valuables. The ongoing investigation aims to determine if the thefts at Delirium Festival are linked to previous incidents in the region.

Moving forward, the Mossos d'Esquadra will continue to process new complaints and analyse the geolocation data. Their goal is to apprehend the thieves and potentially recover the stolen devices, providing some resolution for the victims.
