Operation Targets Organised Cannabis Cultivation

The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, have dismantled a network of three indoor cannabis plantations in El Montmell and Querol after executing judicially authorised searches on 26 August. The operation led to the arrest of three men, aged 24, 29, and 35, suspected of involvement in an organised criminal group. Agents discovered 1,751 cannabis plants across the properties, distributed in different growth phases to ensure a continuous harvest. The cultivation sites were equipped with professional climate control, ventilation, and lighting systems, and were operating using illegal electrical connections to the grid.

Firearm and Fraud Charges

During one of the searches, police uncovered a.22-calibre semi-automatic pistol with a significant quantity of ammunition. One suspect is under investigation for illegal possession of weapons, in addition to charges relating to public health offences, membership of a criminal organisation, and electricity fraud. The investigation began after police detected signs of intensive cannabis cultivation in urbanisations in the Baix Penedès and Alt Camp comarques. The coordinated structure of the group, with roles in management, surveillance, and logistics, allowed for year-round production.

The suspects cultivated cannabis in different growth stages to ensure a continuous supply of drugs for the streets.

Two suspects were apprehended on 26 August during the raids. The third, identified as the alleged ringleader, was arrested the following day. All three appeared before the duty investigating court in El Vendrell last Friday. None had prior criminal records. The total value of the seized material exceeded €60,000. Utility technicians disconnected the illegal power supplies during the operation.
